Cheers to the first-ever Macedonian National MEP Simulation!
Can you imagine being part of the European Parliament for one day? Making resolutions, debating solutions? That is exactly what fifteen students from NOVA International Schools did, (or at least pretended to do) along with a hundred other high school students from all over Macedonia.
This past October of 2012, NOVA High School organized and hosted the first ever national Model European Parliament session where one hundred and fifteen talented students from all over Macedonia gathered to simulate the European Parliament, having a great time during the process.
Each highs school acted as one country from the EP, represented by five delegates. The students from NOVA - Ina Dimova, Kristina Madzoska, Ilina Dimitrovska, Andrej Panov, Petar Petrovski, Lav Georgievski, Tijana Istocka and Simona Sarafinovska represented Germany and Macedonia (the host country.) Meanwhile, NOVA seniors Monika Spanceska and David Dlaka were in charge of the parliament as presidents of the General Assembly while the whole event was under the supervision of our dear professors Mr. Lazar Pop Ivanov, Mr. Aleksandar Mitreski and Ms. Melissa Mitreski. In addition to that, NOVA students Misel Mucunska, Dominik Skoko and Despina Stefanoska, (respective secretaries) wrote down all the resolutions made by the committees.
The event lasted the whole weekend: two days were spent in the facilities of the school while the last day was spent in the Skopje Town Hall. On Friday, (the first day,) the participants gathered in NOVA’s auditorium for the official opening of the event before going home or to their hosts’ houses. On Saturday, the committees met again at NOVA and discussed problems, debated solutions and by the end of the day wrote a resolution. When the long, hard day of debating and discussing in the warm classrooms was over, the delegates, presidents and teachers went to Forza Café for a relaxing social event. On Sunday, (the last and greatest day of MEP,) the delegates gathered in the Town Hall in order to vote on the resolutions like real politicians. Mayor Koce Trajanoski, as well as Mr. Pop Ivanov, Ms. Mitreski and David Dlaka, gave an opening speech before the meeting began. The five committees presented their ideas and solutions, speeches were made, resolutions were voted upon and most importantly, everyone had a great time. Afterwards, five of the one hundred and fifteen students were chosen to represent Macedonia at the International MEP session in Spain this following year, two of which were the NOVA students Kristina Madzoska and Eli Ampova.
