Nova Hotbots
The NOVA HotBots are a robotics team composed of students and educators from NOVA International Schools in Skopje, Macedonia.
The team was formed in November 2011 as a club aimed at making a robot to compete in the Central Eastern European Schools Association First Tech Challenge High School Robotics Competition in Bucharest, Romania.
The team is divided into 3 functional groups - Hardware, Software, and Logistics. These departments coordinate and work together for the robot's advancement, as well as competition preparations.
Taking a step further, the HotBots have organized several events aimed at inspiring young people to be science and technology lliterate by engaging them in exciting competitive events that build science, engineering and technology interest.
At the competition, the HotBots progressed to the final, winning second place in the end. In addition, the team was awarded the Think Award for best engineering log, the Motivate Award for best spirit, as well as the Compass Award for the team with the best mentors.
This year, the HotBots, returned from the FIRST Tech Challenge(FTC) Eastern European Championships with two awards, Motivate and Promote. The Motivate Award celebrates the team that exemplifies the essence of the FTC competition through team spirit and enthusiasm. The Promote Award is given to the team that is most successful in creating a compelling video message for the public designed to change our culture and celebrate science, technology, engineering and math. In addition to those two awards, the HotBots were also runners-up for the Inspire award, which would have included an inviation to compete in the World Championships in St. Louis, Missouris USA.
The cometition was held on March 21st and 22nd at the American Interanational School of Bucharest. The HotBots came back after a strenuous 12 hour bus ride.During Friday's practice rounds, the HotBots looked good and well prepared for Saturday's qualifications and finals. Despite experiencing a technical difficulty that cost the team 3 matches, the HotBots managed to stick together, and deliver excellent performance, although they did not qualify for the finals. This was naturally a wonderful experience for the robotics team as not only did the members get to compete but also they got to meet new like-minded individuals and friends.
